Kindergarten education in SIS serves to provide a good foundation for a child's intellectual and social development. The pre-school education is a structured 2 year program encompassing language, basic mathematics, simple science, music and play-learning. The principles for learning in kindergarten forms the basis for effective education in the Primary, Middle and Upper Divisions. This foundation will ultimately help children construct their own meanings about themselves and the world around them and aid them in becoming responsible members of society. Our SIS Kindergarten tutors, therefore, play an imperative role in shaping and nurturing each child as a thinker and a doer. The child, who has his curiosity ignited in his early years, who develops an excitement about learning and interacts easily with others, will have a head start in life.
Young children are natural and active learners. In SIS, we encourage them to: |

These early learning experiences can be further enhanced by our caring classroom educators who provide high levels of interaction to promote positive attitudes to learning. This is achieved through both play and structured learning in an enjoyable and non-threatening environment. This involves the nurturing and acceptance of young children’s spontaneous, natural and varied responses to the wealth and richness of experiences and opportunities the child is likely to encounter on the learning journey. Adult and peer support in school and at home are vital to this process as children extend their individual skills and knowledge of the world to more elaborate and complex ways of learning, doing, and understanding. The maximum class strength is 10. The pupil to teacher ratio is 10:2 |

| Lower Primary (LPD) – PD 1 - PD 3 |
| |

To supplement the core curriculum, there are subjects like Social Studies, Music (Vocals and Instruments), Physical Education, Social Studies, Speech and Drama and Art, Craft and Pottery. Hindi and Spanish are supplementary languages which are taught by way of phonetic enrichment so as to allow children to develop meaningful interaction through conversations. | Upper Primary (UPD) – PD 4 – PD 6 |
| |
Upper Primary students receive a three-year education from Year 4 to Year 6. The UPD curriculum is based on the foundation that has been established at LPD. The UPD (Year 4-6) curriculum is broader with first (English) second and third languages (Hindi, Spanish and/or French) focusing on acquisition of grammatical structures and oral competencies with emphasis on accuracy and fluency. A distinctive feature of the Singapore Curriculum is the solid, innovative approach to teaching Mathematics and Science.
One of our aims is to teach the young to think creatively and apply knowledge innovatively so as to meet our objective of developing creative independent learners. At SIS, we stress on the Inquiry Approach to learning so that our students fine tune their application skills. The maximum class strength is 25. The teacher to pupil ratio is 10:4
Growth in the foundation years call on more than academic abilities. It will require a certain tenacity. We aim to instill a spirit of 'can-do', the willingness to try a hand at something new and even untried. A comprehensive CCA programme at SIS is aimed at achieving these objectives of excellence and bonding. We use CCA to build a broad base of participation, especially in activities that build team spirit and gamesmanship but also to strengthen body management, focus, eye-hand coordination, spatial awareness, and balance so as to maximise strength and surety in self. |
